In Korea, a "band" is not something that wraps around packages. It's not a group of musicians. It's not even a rubber band. It's a BAND-AID (insert copyright symbol here)!
It seems that Koreans tend to shorten a lot of words or phrases to be just the beginning of the actual word. Examples would be "otobai" (short for autobiKe), or "one piece" (short for one piece DRESS), or "combi" (short for combiNATION -- that's right, not combo - combi). The thing is, it's not a lazy thing so much. Ok, it's a lazy thing. But American's do it too. Perhaps I'll make "combi" the next Konglish quiz. Because it's not what you think it is.
